    At Engro Polymer & Chemicals Limited (EPCL), our CSR strategy focuses on education, healthcare, environmental sustainability, access to safe water, and uplifting local communities.

    environmental commitment

    At EPCL, we work with leading global organizations such as WWF and IUCN to advance environmental stewardship and climate resilience. Our key initiatives include:

    • Afforestation and ecosystem restoration projects, launched as carbon offset initiatives aligned with Pakistan’s climate obligations and the UNSDGs.
    • Mangrove plantation and coastal rehabilitation efforts that enhance biodiversity and protect vulnerable coastlines.
    • Wastewater quality improvement and biodiversity protection under IUCN’s Mangroves for the Future program.
    • The Circular Plastics Institute (CPI) — Pakistan’s first research and innovation hub for advancing plastics circularity, sustainable waste management, and policy advocacy.
    • Adoption of WWF’s Green Office Program at our head office and plant to institutionalize sustainable practices.

    To further embed sustainability, we regularly organize environmental awareness sessions and share informative resources with employees and contractors on occasions such as Earth Day and Environment Day.

    community development

    EPCL is committed to improving the quality of life in underserved communities such as Ghaggar Pathak, where access to basic services is limited. Our community programs are designed to create sustainable impact in healthcare, education, and water access.

    Some of our annual key initiatives include:

    • Solar lighting installation in Ghaggar Phatak.
    • Development of a community park and a mosque.
    • Installation of water filtration plants in Ghaggar Phatak.
    • Blood donation campaigns.
    • Winter clothes distribution.
    • The establishment of a SINA clinic providing free healthcare.
    • Partnered with TCF to open schools.

    education

    EPCL, in partnership with The Citizens Foundation (TCF), is expanding access to education in underserved communities.

    • One TCF school for Ghaggar Phatak residents, one in Ibrahim Goth, and one in Hummeer Goth (with 2 units) - making a total of 4 primary schools, with an overall enrollment of around 750 students, with 45% being girls.
    • A recent shift expansion has enabled education for 180 additional students.

    Additionally, skill development programs have been launched to equip local youth with technical training, enabling sustainable employment and strengthening community resilience.

    healthcare | with SINA

    In partnership with SINA, EPCL established a fully equipped clinic in Ghaggar Phatak (PKR 15.7M).

    • In 2024, the clinic provided treatment to 37,000+ patients, including 16,500+ children and 15,600 women.
    • Over 3,400 laboratory tests were conducted, and the clinic served ~ 110 patients daily on average.
    • EPCL also collaborated with Karwan-e-Hayat to establish a mental health clinic, offering free therapy, medicines, and awareness sessions in Ghaggar Pathak and nearby communities.
    • Additionally, 87+ community health and environment awareness sessions were held in 2024, benefiting nearly 1,900 residents.

    clean water | with the water foundation

    We partnered with The Water Foundation to provide clean drinking water to the community of Ghaggar Pathak.

    • Five water filtration plants are fully operational.
    • In 2024, they supplied over 8 million liters of clean drinking water, benefiting more than 155,000 residents
    • On average, the plants provide 22,000 liters of safe water per day.
